The SoNo District is Anchorage Alaska's Premier shopping and entertainment destination.
The District was created through the collaboration of the owners of five local downtown businesses who wanted to share ideas and create a consistent message in marketing their individual businesses.
The primary goal of the SoNo District was to create a recognizable downtown destination that would offer visitors a wide range of products, services, food and entertainment. The SoNo logo was created, and on December 1st, 2005, Mayor Mark Begich proclaimed the SoNo District as Anchorage's first official downtown District. Since that time the G Street Arts District and the Convention Center District have also been created as part of the overall downtown renewal project.
SoNo, which sprang from repeated use of the directions South of Nordstrom provided to customers, is a play on New York City's and London's SoHo districts. The district is currently made up of Blush, Second Run, Bernies Bungalow, and Chez Ritz, bounded by 6th and 9th Avenues and C and E Streets. The city has erected blue wayfinding signs on street signs in the area that incorporate the SoNo logo.
The map above shows the location of each of these establishments in relation to other downtown Anchorage landmarks. You can click on the individual businesses on the map to go to the official web site for that business. There are also text links in the footer of this page. Metered Parking along D Street and 7th and 8th Avenues is plentiful, and several parking garages are located within easy walking distance.
The owners of the businesses in the SoNo District welcome you and invite you to come experience Destination SoNo!
